Path Integral for Half-binding Potentials as Quantum Mechanical Analog for Black Hole Partition Functions

چکیده
The semi-classical approximation to black hole partition functions is not welldefined, because the classical action is unbounded and the first variation of the uncorrected action does not vanish for all variations preserving the boundary conditions. Both problems can be solved by adding a Hamilton-Jacobi counterterm. I show that the same problem and solution arises in quantum mechanics for half-binding potentials.

Black Hole Entropy and Entropy of Entanglement
We compare the one-loop corrections to the entropy of a black hole, from quantum fields of spin zero, one-half, and one, to the entropy of entanglement of the fields. For fields of spin zero and one-half the black hole entropy is identical to the entropy of entanglement. For spin one the two entropies differ by a contact interaction with the horizon which appears in the black hole entropy but n...
متن کاملA bound on the log correction to the black hole area law
There has recently been a controversy regarding logarithmic corrections to the area law of the black hole entropy: different approaches give different negative corrections, some with a coefficient 3/2, some with 1/2. It is pointed out here that the standard quantum geometry formalism is consistent with 1/2 but not with 3/2. It has long been argued that the area of the horizon of a black hole ca...
متن کاملQuantum Gravity on dS3
We study quantum gravity on dS3 using the Chern-Simons formulation of threedimensional gravity. We derive an exact expression for the partition function for quantum gravity on dS3 in a Euclidean path integral approach. We show that the topology of the space relevant for studying de Sitter entropy is a solid torus. The quantum fluctuations of de Sitter space are sectors of configurations of poin...
متن کاملQuantum mechanical path integrals and thermal radiation in static curved spacetimes
Quantum mechanical path integrals [1–4], also called first quantised path integrals, have been applied to some problems in curved spacetimes [5], such as to cosmological and black-holes issues [6–11]. A remarkable theoretical prediction in semi-classical gravity is that of the thermal and quantum radiation of black holes [12,13]. This result is recovered again in the present paper within the fo...
متن کاملEntropy using Path Integrals for Quantum Black Hole Models
Several eigenvalue equations that could describe quantum black holes have been proposed in the canonical quantum gravity approach. In this paper, we choose one of the simplest of these quantum equations to show how the usual Feynman’s path integral method can be applied to obtain the corresponding statistical properties. We get a logarithmic correction to the BekensteinHawking entropy as alread...
